Swimming
Swimming ran for 3 weeks this term, over weeks 4, 5 and 6. We all had a blast and it was great to see everybody making tremendous progress in the water. Thank you to all those parents that came in to help our during swimming times. Your help is much appreciated!
Athletics Day
Wahoo! What fun we had last Wednesday on our Junior Athletics day. We were lucky that the rain stayed away so we could enjoy our day down on the school field. We all ran, jumped and threw our best so we were pretty tired by the end of the day, Luckily for us, Mrs Saunders knew how tired we would be so we relaxed at the end of the day with a special treat DVD. Last Thursday, we did some writing about Athletics day. Our goal was to use an interesting story starter to hook in the reader and to use exciting describing words to say what we could see, hear and feel. Here a few stories to share...
I can hear a smash like glass. The cheering is loud like a loud radio. A blasting radio! I can see Devoy and Kendall and Blake and Hillary. I can hear people shouting. Ollie
I can see balls fly, fly, fly fly. It was like balls were jumping. Caleb
Blast off! It sounded like an elephant stomping on the ground while we were doing athletics. Victoria
Whoosh! 3,2,1...The javelin was taking off into space. After the javelin we went to sprints. I was like a Falcon and I was like a cheetah. Harry
Reading awards
Congratulations to those children who have got their 25 nights reading. We are such magnificent readers in AS Class. Ka pai to Abbey for being the first student to reach 50 nights. Wahoo! Great stuff Abbey. We are close to reaching some more reading awards so check back in soon to see more photos!
Reading Focus
This term we have been focusing on blends with r. We have looked at fr, gr, br, pr, cr and dr blends. Next week we will be learning about the tr blend. What words can you think of that start with these blends?
Writing - Language experiences
Every Tuesday morning AS class get together with BD Class to do a learning experience. Learning experiences are fun, hands on lessons that help to build oral language and engage children in writing. So far this term we have built rockets, played with bubble wrap, played with the giant parachute and did a chip tasting challenge! We use our 5 senses as well as exciting describing words to make our writing interesting to read. Here are some examples of some super writing...
Boom! Boom! Boom! Today AS class went to BD class. We had yummy chips. They were delissimo! My favourite flavour was the chicken. It tastes like salt. It smells like smoke. It looks like waves. Mason
Bam, bam, bam. Jumping jellybeans on the parachute. I can see balls popping like popcorn. It was like dolphins flying. Maddie
Pop, pop, pop went the bubble wrap! It was very bubbly because it was very soft. Preslee
| MMM! Yummy chips in our tummy! |
